Outreach UPCOMING EVENTS:February 3 All God's children service at 9 AM PEACE ON TUESDAYS Our second new worship service at Christ Church is on Tuesday evenings at 7:30 PM. We began our new worship service on January 22. The service was something that I have wanted to begin for a long time. The service speaks to my heart. It is in quiet and rest and centering on prayer that I most find God in my soul. I have been praying for a sign from God that it was time to offer this kind of worship service. It wasn't until the vestry retreat this fall when I spent time talking with Jonathan Winters, the Associate Director of Crossroads Center , that we discovered that we both loved meditation and prayer. Jonathan had led services like I had in mind before and used his music to enhance the service. He has graciously volunteered his time to help lead the service and Joan Mazalatis and Lana Liu have agreed to assist. The service consists of music, prayer, quiet, meditation, centering prayer, communion, and sharing. At the end of the service people are invited to light a candle with their specific prayer request and to stay as long as they like in quiet. We were very happy that people from the community came on January 22 and January 29 who had read about the service in the newspapers. One participant said of the evening, It was like being in heaven for a little while. Our Lenten program this year at Christ church will be to learn how to meditate and to listen to the Lord in prayer. Please consider making an effort to come and see what Jesus has in store for us. ASH WEDNESDAY The theme of this Lent at Christ Church will be the Healing power of the Cross . Sermons, activities, teachings, and practice will center on this theme. Next Wednesday, February 6, is the beginning of Lent. The Episcopal Church observes this day by fasting and the service of ashes. This includes a meditation, prayers, and the celebration of Holy Communion. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are the two official days of fasting in the church. Fasting is observed as each individual prays and discerns the way they are called to fast this year. The service begins at 7:30 PM with silence and prayer. I have often observed that they way we choose to observe Lent is directly proportioned to the joy we experience at Easter. Following the Ash Wednesday service from 8:30 to 9:30 will be a presentation of the five step model of healing prayer that every Christian needs to know in order to be used by the Lord in healing ministry. It is my hope that many will attend in order to be prepared to minister to others and personally receive healing as well. INTERCESSORY PRAY will be on February 4th & 18th if you are interested in participating please join us in the prayer room at 7:45. CONCERT OF PRAYER AT CHRIST CHURCH IN MARCH The next Mt. Olive Township Concert of Prayer is on Sunday March 2 at 6 PM at Christ Church . The emphasis this Sunday will be on healing prayer for our region. Please make an effort to come and represent our church. We will need ushers and someone to organize the refreshments. Please let Pastor Richard know if you can help. This is an opportunity to pray with other churches for our community. PAJAMA COLLECTION This is the letter that was given, along with the pajamas to Donna at Grace Episcopal Church in Rutherford who collected the pajamas. Christ Church Budd Lake 's Senior Sunday School class consists of 4 children. Gale 14, Taylor 15, Cody 15, & Holly 17. They held 2 fundraising events to collect pajamas. The first event was held on December 9. The class provided a luncheon for the congregation as a gift, in return for a pair of pajamas and/or a children's book. The event was a wonderful success, sandwich fix-ins, salads and desserts were provided and they collected 24 pairs of pajamas, 1 children's books & $26, which the class bought more pajamas with. On January 19th the 2nd event was held. This was a teen pajama party. The class invited friends and neighbors to the church for an evening of pizza, snacks, games and a movie. Again attendance required a pair of pajamas. The class collected another 14 pairs of pajamas and another $49 to purchase more. The kids had a wonderful time playing manhunt, games, eating pizza and all kids of snacks. New friends were made and all had a lot of fun. After a shopping trip with the money collected from the 2 events the pajamas totaled 46 and 2 children's books. We are very proud of our class. They may be small in numbers but they are big at heart. They were excited about being able to help children in some way, from the beginning, and worked very hard to do as much as they could for other children. We want to thank everyone in the congregation for all your support, because we wouldn't have been able to do it without you. Sharon Bowles & Vicki Robinson Sr. Sunday School class teachers |
