Budd Lake is located
in the northwest section of Morris County. Along with the nearby
town of Flanders, they are together called Mt. Olive Township. Originally
Budd Lake was a resort for many people from New York; one of its
main features was a nightclub, which hosted many of the big bands
of the 30's. The area surrounding the lake was mostly farmland until
in the 60's and 70's. The summer homes were then renovated into
year round homes and farm land was sold off for apartment dwellings,
housing developments, several small strip malls and an International
Trade Zone, which offers thousands of jobs to local residents.
The fast change from
a rural to suburban community has made Mt. Olive Township one of
the fastest growing communities in Morris County. Growth in small
business opportunities found along routes 46 and 206 add to the
increase in population. Toys R Us recently built an enormous warehouse
in our community.
Budd Lake is predominately
Caucasian with a small percentage of minorities.
Budd Lake is the home
of Roman Catholic, Lutheran, Baptist and several non-denominational
churches. The surrounding towns host many denominations including
2 other Episcopal churches in our area.
There are 3 accredited
high schools in the immediate area; Mount Olive Township, the Mount
Olive High School, in Hackettstown, the Hackettstown High School
and in Stanhope, The Lenape Valley High School. Higher education
opportunities include Centenary College in Hackettstown, the Sussex
Community College in Newton, County College of Morris in Randolph,
Drew University, Farleigh Dickenson University, College of St. Elizabeth
and Rutgers.
Within our local area
there are many cultural opportunities available. The Growing Stage
and Pax Amicus provide training for local amateur actors, adult,
teenage and children and good theater for our residents. Waterloo
Village in Stanhope hosts a variety of events from fairs to classical
or rock music concerts. There are other theaters and concert halls
in North Jersey and we are only 1 ½ hours away from New York
City.
